Dr. Mark Willis - Earth's Edge Medical Director
Based in the rural Peak District, GP Willis is Earth's Edge's Medical Director. He has a passion for Mountain Medicine and has been involved in a number of high-altitude expeditions with both Earth’s Edge and the British Army. When not on far-flung adventures Mark can be found writing content for the MSc in Expedition and Wilderness Medicine with the University of South Wales.
Dr. Laura McDonnell
Laura is an Intesive Care trainee, based in the West of Scotland. She developed an interest in expedition medicine as a student, and now loves helping clients achieve things they never thought they could by supporting them on their adventures! She is delighted to have been able to make her love of the outdoors an important part of her career. She has travelled with us to Kilimanjaro (2023) and Everest Base Camp (2024).
When she's not working, you can find her outside enjoying the beautiful Scottish countryside, or planning her next trip!
Dr. Dan Gill
Dan is a GP living in Donegal, and has been working with us since 2017. He loves the outdoors, and is a keen surfer, sea kayaker, scuba diver and hiker. He holds qualifications in travel health, tropical medicine, minor surgery, expedition medicine, and advanced cardiac and advanced trauma life support. He is also a PADI Divemaster and a RYA Yachtmaster. He has worked (and hiked) in Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, and even spent 2 years sailing around the Mediterranean with his family! With us, he has travelled to Kilimanjaro, Machu Picchu, Annapurna Base Camp, Everest Base Camp, and to Kenya on our Tri-Adventure.
Dr. Catherine Chatfield
Cat is an anaesthetics, intesive care medicine, and pre-hospital emergency registrar working in Devon. She hold a Diploma in Mountain Medicine, and has travelled as an expedition doctor to the Himalayas, Madagascar, Elbrus, and Aconcagua. She has previously worked on one of our Kilimanjaro expeditions, and will be part of our Everest Base Camp expedition in 2026 - she can't wait to finally experience Kathmandu and be playing cards in a mess tent again!
Dr. Aoife O'Carroll
Aoife is a Dublin-based GP, and has travelled with us to Everest Base Camp (2023) and Kilimanjaro (2022). Next up is Machu Picchu (2025)!
It's a dream come true for her to be able to combine her passion for her work with her love for travel and the outdoors. She loves being immersed in the local culture, surrounded by stunning scenery, and getting to spend time with fellow adventurers on our expeditions.
Dr. Aleksandra Zoethout
Aleksandra is a resident in anaesthesiology, with experience in emergency medicine, ICU, and surgery. She lives in the Netherlands and spends her holidays climbing and mountaineering throughout Europe. She has completed Aconcagua, Island Peak, Kilimanjaro (twice!), and Everest Base Camp with us.
Her favourite aspect of the expeditions is the people - "the singing porters on Kilimanjaro, the kind Sherpa in Nepal, and the knowledgeable guides in Argentina", as well as the opportunity to form connections with all of the clients.
Dr. Brian McMorrow
Brian is a practicing GP and also the Director of GP Training in Sligo. He joined Earth's Edge in 2015 for Kilimanjaro, and since then has taken part in expeditions to Machu Picchu, Elbrus, and Everest Base Camp (2024).
He feels priviliged to have met so many wonderful people on their journeys while working with us, and some of his favourite memories include seeing the night sky above the Tanzanian plains and hiking through the towering peaks of the Himalyas by moonlight.
Dr. Maeve Leonard
Maeve specialises in Emergency Medicine, and is currently based in Cork. She'll soon finish her training in Sligo, and is very excited about the hiking and surfing opportunities there!
She spent the last year working as a travelling medic in Indonesia, Nepal, Mexico, Peru, and South Africa. She's particularly interested in wilderness and maritime medicine. She has travelled with us to Everest Base Camp (2024) and Machu Picchu (2024), and will be heading to Kilimanjaro next year.
Dr David Maasdorp
David is a Cornwall-based GP, and holds a Diploma in Primary Emergency Care as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Extreme Medicine. He has experience in desert, mountain, and tropical environments. He lives with his wife, toddler, and dog.
He is originally South African, and loved being back on home soil for Kilimanjaro with us in 2023. He next trips will be to Kang Yatse II this year, then our Kenya Tri-Adventure in 2026.
Dr. Marina Jara Fort
Marina works in the UK, specialising in Emergency Medicine. She is originally from Catalonia, and loves the outdoors. She enjoys climbing big mountains, trail running, and camping in her van (with a coffee and a good book!)
She has summitted Kilimanjaro three times and Aconcagua twice, but her favourite trip so far was our 2024 Himlung Himal expedition - an unique opportunity to disconnect and embrace the beautiful valley they camped in. Her ultimate goal is to climb an 8,000m peak one day.
Dr. Sean Davidson
Sean worked in hospitals in England before a love of mountaineering and climbing lead him to New Zealand, where he is specialising in General Practice and Rural Hospital Medicine. He was a member of a mountain rescue team for 10 years, and has taught on expedition and wilderness medicine courses.
He started working with us while in Tanzania conducting research for his PhD, and since then he's travelled with our clients to Kilimanjaro (2022) and Island Peak (2024).
Dr. Marcus Ball
Marcus is a GP based in Scotland. With Earth's Edge, he's travelled to Kilimanjaro (2022), Everest Base Camp (2022), Kang Yatse II (2023), and most recently, Mera Peak (2024).
Kang Yatse II has been his favourite trip so far: "It was the perfect mix of a laughter-filled challenge and an opportunity to form great connections between the guides, locals and clients."
Dr. Jonny Milton
Jonny has worked as an expedition medic in a number of places including the breathtaking landscapes of Peru, Kilimanjaro (not once, but twice!) and the iconic Everest Base Camp. His favourite expedition is Everest Base Camp. "I love the feeling of the journey you get, starting in the madness of Kathmandu, the flight up to Lukla, and then the changing scenery as you travel up the trail. The Dahl Baht is also a real treat in the evenings!"
Dr. Mari Gleeson
Mari is a GP based in Ireland. She has worked as an expedition medic on a multi-day desert ultramarathon in Kenya, Kilimanjaro and Everest Base Camp. Kilimanjaro is top of the list as Mari's favourite expedition she's worked on so far!
Dr. Lara Good
Lara is an anaesthethist-in-training based in Bristol. She has worked on expeditions in Iceland, Costa Rica, Kenya, Tanzania, Nepal, and in the UK. She is currently working in Cape Town, South Africa completing a Global Health Fellowship, specialising in trauma and infectious diseases.
With us, she has travelled on our Kilimanjaro (2022), Everest Base Camp (2023), and Kenya Tri-Adventure (2024) trips, with the latter being her favourite so far! When she's not working, she enjoys being outdoors, trail running, and wild swimming.
Dr. Domhnall O'Connor
Domhnall has trekked to the summit of Kilimanjaro, explored Machu Picchu and journeyed across the Himalayas on our Everest Base Camp and Island Peak expedition.
Domhnall believes expedition medicine is about using medical knowledge to elevate clients to new heights and reach their goals!
He hopes to take on Elbrus and Aconcagua next.
Dr. Aoife Ni Mhaoileoin
In 2013, Aoife embarked on her first adventure with Earths Edge to Kilimanjaro. Since then, she has explored Fiji, Morocco, and Borneo, and even returned to Kilimanjaro. In 2022, she completed Mera Peak.
Kilimanjaro is her favourite expedition; 'It's the most perfect mix of challenge and adventure and scenery and culture!'
Dr. Domhnall Heron
Domhnall has travelled with us on many of our expeditions including Kilimanjaro, Machu Picchu, Elbrus, Annapurna Base Camp, and the Kenya Tri-Adventure.
Trekking on the ice-covered slopes of Mt. Elbrus has been his favourite expedition so far and he hopes to take on K2 Base Camp next.
Dr. Jeffrey Mulcaire
Jeffrey started working with us in 2018 and to date has travelled with us to Machu Picchu, Kilimanjaro and Everest Base Camp twice. The Kenya Tri-Adventure, Aconcagua and Island Peak are on his bucket list!
Jeffrey's favourite trip so far is Everest Base Camp; 'The Nepalese team are incredible, the food is great, and the scenic route to Everest Base Camp is unmatched!'
Dr. Eddie Daly
Eddie works as a GP in Bray but his main passion is the outdoors and he can be found biking, hiking or running in Wicklow most weekends. He also loves adventure to faraway places, the wilder the better! He has undertaken post-graduate studies in wilderness and expedition medicine, travel medicine and has a special interest in infectious diseases. He is also a qualified Wilderness Physician.
