Hike the Height of Mount Everest
in one day – as a team
15th August 2026 | Mount Brandon, Co. Kerry
Limited to 50 Participants
A serious test of mental strength and physical endurance.
What Is the Everest Challenge?
The Everest Challenge is a team-based mountain endurance event where you and your team aim to collectively climb 8,848 metres – the height of Mount Everest – in one day.
You will repeat the Pilgrim’s Path ascent on Mount Brandon in County Kerry throughout the day, building vertical gain together until your team reaches the full height of Mount Everest.
This is not a race. It’s a long, challenging mountain day focused on teamwork, steady pacing and resilience.
The event is run as a not-for-profit fundraiser in support of Kerry Mountain Rescue. It is organised and delivered by Earth’s Edge, in collaboration with Outwest. Earth’s Edge oversees event logistics, safety planning and delivery on the mountain.
How the Challenge Works
- You register as a team of 3, 4 or 5 people
- All teams follow the same route up and down Mount Brandon
- Each team must hike together for the duration of the event (no running)
- Each climb adds to your team’s total vertical gain
Mount Brandon provides approximately 780 metres of vertical gain per ascent.
→ Once your team reaches 8,848 metres combined, your challenge is complete.
Team Sizes & Targets
All teams follow the same route and aim to reach the same overall height of 8,848 metres. The difference lies in how much vertical gain each person completes.
| TEAM SIZE | VERTICAL PER PERSON | APPROX ASCENTS PP | APPROX DISTANCE PP | DIFFICULTY / LENGTH |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Team of 3 | 2,950m | 3.8 | 30.4km | Very Demanding (10-12 hrs) |
| Team of 4 | 2,212m | 2.8 | 22.4km | Demanding (8-10 hrs) |
| Team of 5 | 1,769m | 2.3 | 18.4km | Challenging (7-9 hrs) |
Choosing the Right Team Size for the Everest Challenge
Team of 3
Best suited to highly experienced mountain athletes who spend a lot of time in the hills, are comfortable with sustained climbing, and have recently completed ultra-distance or similar endurance events.
Team of 4
Suitable for strong, experienced hikers who regularly complete long days (10+ hours) with significant vertical gain (>1500m).
Team of 5
Suitable for confident hikers comfortable spending 8+ hours on the mountain at a steady pace. The most accessible option, but still a serious challenge.
If you are unsure, choose the larger team size. This is intended to stretch you, not break you.
