Climbing Mount Kenya
A true African mountain adventure, combining challenge, wildlife, and purpose.
Rising to 4,985m, Mount Kenya is Africaโs second-highest peak and one of the continentโs most spectacular trekking mountains. Known locally as Kere Nyaga (the Mountain of Brightness) this ancient extinct volcano offers dramatic landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and an unforgettable summit experience.
Our five-day trek to Lenana Peak takes us through lush rainforest and bamboo zones alive with wildlife, across sweeping moorlands dotted with giant lobelia and senecio, and into striking alpine terrain shaped by glaciers. The gradual ascent profile allows for proper acclimatisation, supported throughout by our experienced local guides, porters, and crew.
Summit day begins before dawn. Climbing by headtorch under a vast African sky, we reach the top at sunrise, where breathtaking views stretch across the plains below and the rugged peaks of Batian and Nelion tower nearby. Standing at 4,985m, youโll experience an immense sense of achievement, not just for reaching the summit, but for doing so in support of a greater cause.
After descending the mountain, the adventure continues with evening and early morning game drives in a nearby reserve, offering the chance to spot some of Africaโs iconic wildlife.
A visit to a Concern project provides a powerful and personal connection to the impact of your efforts, bringing deeper meaning to the physical challenge youโve completed.

Since 2007, weโve guided thousands of people to some of the worldโs most iconic summits, from Kilimanjaro to Aconcagua. When we go to the worldโs highest mountains, including Mount Toubkal (4,167m), we send an expedition doctor, a cornerstone of our commitment to safety and care that runs right through the company.
This commitment to care defines how we travel. We operate with smaller group sizes, buildย stronger teams, and work closely with the communities who make our expeditions possible. As aย proud Irish B Corp, we are dedicated to protecting the planet and supporting local staff through fair pay and responsible practices.
Each climber receives anย Earthโs Edge team jacket ahead of departure, a practical piece of kit designed for the mountain, and a reminder that your journey begins long before you arrive in Kenya.
Our goal is simple: to help people grow physically, mentally, and emotionally through extraordinary adventures.
