About Damian Browne

Damian Browne is an extreme adventurer, peak performance athlete, and international keynote speaker from Galway, Ireland.

During a 16-year career as a professional rugby player, Damian donned the colours of some of rugby’s European elite, including Northampton Saints and Leinster, where he won club rugby’s biggest prize, The Heineken Cup.

Since his retirement from professional rugby, Damian has become one of the world’s foremost extreme adventurers, undertaking some of the most demanding physical and mental challenges on the planet. He has completed the 257km Sahara Desert ultramarathon, the Marathon des Sables, and climbed five of the Seven Summits. Most recently, he has created history by becoming the first person to row from New York City to Galway, which took 112 days. In the process, he become one of only a handful of people to have rowed the Atlantic in both directions.

Damian’s drive to explore his physical and mental limits is not exclusive to ultra-endurance events. He is a multi-time Irish indoor rowing champion, holding all-time and all-category records for the 500m and 1000m distance.

For 25 years, Damian has pursued his human potential, relentlessly pushing his body and mind to their perceived limits, forging himself and his character in what he deems a “crucible life”. Damian has shared his unique story, incredible experiences, and deep learnings with multinational corporations, tech giants, and in world-class sporting environments, including with NFL teams and international rugby XVs.

Climbing Kilimanjaro – 7 Day Machame Route

Kilimanjaro is not only Africa’s tallest mountain standing at 5,896m, but is also the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Kilimanjaro is, in fact, a huge crater known as Kibo that is over 2km wide.

Our 10-day itinerary includes seven days of trekking on the scenic Machame Trail. This time-frame allows for excellent acclimatisation and increases the chance of a successful summit. This route is also rich in biodiversity, and you will experience ever changing landscapes. From spotting African wildlife in the low scrublands, you’ll trek through lush forests followed by striking alpine tundra before finally ascending over scree and past glaciers to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

This trek is suitable for people with a good level of fitness. You do not need mountaineering experience to climb Kilimanjaro. Unlike most companies who spend their last night before summiting in Barafu camp, we stay in Kosovo Camp. Kosovo Camp is a much quieter camp, and 120m higher in terms of altitude. This cuts an hour off of our summit night!

Our Tanzanian expedition leader and doctor work in tandem with our incredible local team of guides and porters to deliver an exhilarating experience each and every day on the trail. The morning ritual of native song and dance gets the blood pumping in the early sunlight, and will motivate you to reach the top!

There’s also a free day at the end of your trip where you can get some well deserved R&R by the pool, or go on a one-day Safari in Tarangire National Park.
