What Was Trekking To Everest Base Camp Like?

What a JOURNEY. Nepal welcomed us with open arms, and we embraced every single moment of it.

From unexpected treats on the trail – surprise lunches, steaming hot chocolates, and every type of tea imaginable – to the endless laughter, deep conversations, and snapshots of memories captured along the way, this trek was more than just a physical challenge. It was an unforgettable, life-changing ADVENTURE.

Even when we were snowed in at Lobuche and didn’t quite make it all the way to Everest Base Camp, we found joy in the little things – heated games of UNO, precarious card towers, stolen moments of rest, and biscuits passed around like they were gold dust. Every challenge we faced, we faced together, turning obstacles into stories we’ll tell for years to come.

The Earth’s Edge Nepal Team

None of this would have been possible without our incredible Earth’s Edge team in Nepal:

Our Porters

The porters were the unsung heroes of this expedition: they carried our gear, sleeping bags, and endless supplies of snacks across rocks, rivers, and snow with unwavering strength and determination. Watching them navigate those trails with such grace and resilience was nothing short of humbling. They were the backbone of this journey, and we will forever be grateful for everything they did to ensure we made it safely from tea house to tea house.

Our Guides

Our guides Sumann, Nissan, Phura, Dev, and Nahain: we were so thankful for everything they did for us. We’ll never forget the warmth of their smiles every morning as they brought us tea, or how effortlessly they served us meals and ensured everything ran smoothly. They anticipated our needs before we even realised them. They lifted our spirits when we struggled, carried our packs when our legs gave way, and even gave us the clothes off their backs when the cold set in or the sun scorched. Every step, laugh, and tough moment was made easier with their kindness, patience, and energy. We were beyond lucky to have them guiding us on this expedition, and we will never forget everything they did, every step of the way.

Our Expedition Leader

Then there’s Arjun, our expedition leader, the glue that held us all together. Arjun looked after us, the guides and porters, reminding us that we weren’t just trekkers, but a family on an exciting journey together. He checked in on us when we were unwell, ensured everyone felt supported, and still managed to keep the group’s mood high, bringing laughter and lightness to every moment. He wasn’t just a leader, he was our friend, our guide, and our entertainer all in one. Looking after an entire group, managing expectations, and handling the unpredictable weather was no easy feat, but he did it with skill and warmth. He made sure we still experienced the best of the Himalayas, letting us stand in awe of the world’s biggest mountains and take in breathtaking landscapes that will stay with us forever. And most importantly, he reminded us what really matters: it’s not just about the destination, but about each and every step along the way. We all left this trip with that lesson, living life a little more bistaire bistaire (slowly slowly).

Our Expedition Doctor

Our doctor Mark was an amazing addition to our team as well. Knowing he was there with us gave us peace of mind like nothing else. He reassured us when we worried, took care of us when we needed it, and kept us safe throughout.

Everest Base Camp Trek – Daily Vlog

This journey was unforgettable. The mountains, the people, and the moments we shared. That’s why I’m so delighted to have been able to capture so much of it, and so excited to be able to share it with all of you in this video.

Thank you, Nepal. Until next time. ❤️

(And next time wasn’t too far away! Keep your eyes peeled for Ari’s Annapurna Base Camp Diaries, coming next year!)
