Why Us

Why Choose Earth’s Edge?

Since 2007, Earth’s Edge has helped thousands of people take on life-changing adventures around the world.

What sets us apart is the combination of experienced local expertise, strong preparation, small groups, professional medical support on many of our high-altitude expeditions, and genuine care for the people and places we travel through.

Experienced Expedition Guides & In-Country Teams

Our expeditions are led on the ground by experienced local expedition guides, supported by trusted in-country teams who know their mountains, routes and communities intimately.

Many of the guides we work with have been leading Earth’s Edge groups for years, and some work almost exclusively with our teams.

Depending on the expedition, the wider team may include additional guides, Sherpas, porters, cooks, drivers and other support staff.

Dedicated Expedition Doctors

On many of our high-altitude expeditions, a dedicated Earth’s Edge expedition doctor travels with the group.

Their presence provides an additional layer of medical support, particularly at altitude, and means professional medical assessment is available within the expedition team if someone becomes unwell or injured.

Medical arrangements vary by expedition, so the individual expedition page will always explain exactly what is included.

Training & Preparation in Ireland

A successful expedition starts long before you reach the mountain.

Many of our trips include a pre-departure training weekend in Wicklow, Ireland, giving you the opportunity to spend time in the hills, get practical advice and meet some of the people you’ll be travelling with.

You’ll also receive ongoing support from the Earth’s Edge team on training, equipment, packing and preparing for your expedition.

Small Groups, Strong Teams

We deliberately keep our expedition groups relatively small, with a maximum of 16 participants on most trips and smaller groups on some of our more challenging expeditions.

This allows for more personal support and helps create the strong sense of team and community that is such an important part of the Earth’s Edge experience.

Many of our clients join on their own and come home with a whole new group of friends.

Safety at the Heart of Every Expedition

Adventure travel and high-altitude trekking involve inherent risks, and no mountain environment can ever be made risk-free.

Our role is to manage those risks carefully through experienced people on the ground, detailed planning, destination-specific procedures and proper preparation before you travel.

An Irish Team Behind You

Earth’s Edge is an Irish-owned company, founded by James McManus in 2007.

Our team in Ireland supports you from the moment you start considering an expedition, helping with training, equipment, flights, insurance, preparation and the questions that inevitably come with taking on a big adventure.

Because we’re a small team, you’re dealing with real people who know our expeditions and the teams operating them on the ground.

Adventure Changes Lives

For some people, Earth’s Edge starts with their first serious hike. For others, it’s Kilimanjaro, Everest Base Camp or a major high-altitude summit.

Wherever you start, our goal is the same: to help people grow physically, mentally and emotionally through extraordinary adventures.
